Romology is a scientific discipline which studies language, traditions and culture of Roma people. A theoretical framework is interdisciplinary: methods are used to develop critical research of Roma community in Europe/Serbia through history and today, with the focus of removing stereotypes, prejudices, racial, gender and every other type of discrimination of Roma men and women. For this purpose data are used from the following: scientific literature, media analysis, studies of gender and various studies at the institutes of the system and civil organizations…. (more information in the work of Danijela Radoviċ (2018), "School of Romology at the university of Novi Sad as an example of intercultural higher education in Roma community", Intercult 2017, Institute of Pedagogy in Vojvodina, Novi Sad, pp.133-149).
Proposed by the WSR, University in Novi Sad, in July 2004 organized “School of Romology”, together with the WSR, as a form of experimental program for training of Roma and Non-Roma (student) population in Vojvodina.
The goal at the school was to create a homogenous group of students from Roma and Non-Roma community who acquired basic knowledge from Romology as an interdisciplinary scientific field, who mastered techniques of team work, who were trained for interactive lectures, and to continue raising awareness of broad audience for the needs of Roma community.
The school was organized for nine consecutive years, from 2004/2005 to 2012/2013 academic year as a form of expert training at the University in Novi Sad structured in 32 hours within four modules: language, culture, history, housing and demographics.
All students had to have a diploma of completed high school – as a minimum, and as a maximum – masters degree and PhD, who desired to learn something within given topics. Students were required to fulfill three conditions: attendance of half of the total number of lectures; taking part in team research work (with mentorship work) and writing the final paper (individually or in a team), with mentorship and public presentation of the work. For that they graduated with a diploma for completing the School (signed by the rector of UNS).
The special emphasis was given to utilizing the educational potentials of the Roma elite for the topics above mentioned (four modules). The advantage was given to the young Roma experts who already graduated from the School of Romology.
